Museum of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena

Museum of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena

In 1967, the traditional balsamic vinegar consortium was founded in Spilamberto.

The association strives in every possible way to promote, organise, and support initiatives and events that safeguard and highlight the value of traditional balsamic vinegar as well as educating about balsamic vinegar while firmly upholding tradition.
It holds trainings and advanced courses on balsamic vinegar as well as overseeing the organoleptic exam for learning about this prized product. Each year it holds the Palio di San Giovanni competition for champions of traditional balsamic vinegar produced on the lands that once belonged to the Este.
It boasts a thousand members and is located in Via Roncati 28, Spilamberto.

On 24 November 2002, a key member joined the Province of Modena Museum Network: the Museum of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar.
The museum is a hub for learning about balsamic vinegar, a culture closely tied to the land and its people.
The museum exhibit is organised around different levels of interpretation, so that it can be of interest to different kinds of visitors: experts, school groups, restaurant owners, tourists, and the merely curious.
Each object on display has an educational value, and the aroma of the prized product is diffused from a set of small pots dating to the early 18th century, allowing visitors a direct encounter with the age-old tradition.
